We click. We type. We configure. We manage.
For decades, personal computing has been defined by one simple idea: Humans operate computers.
That model has served us well—but it is reaching its limits.
Today, we stand at the beginning of a fundamental shift in end-user computing (EUC). One where computers no longer wait passively for instructions but actively participate in getting work done. One where intelligence moves from the edge of human interaction into the system itself.
As Bill Gates recently put it:
“Agents are not only going to change how everyone interacts with computers. They’re also going to upend the software industry, bringing about the biggest revolution in computing since we went from typing commands to tapping on icons.”
At Nerdio, we believe this moment marks the most profound transformation EUC has ever seen.
From user‑driven computing to Computer‑Using Agents
In the age of agents, the computer no longer waits for commands. It understands intent.
It prepares. It acts. It collaborates.
Instead of automating individual clicks or scripting isolated workflows, AI agents reason across applications, data, and policies. They observe environments. They plan actions. They execute tasks end‑to‑end continuously and safely.
This is not the next evolution of macros or RPA.
It is a new computing model altogether.
And that model demands a new kind of foundation—one built not just for users, but for agents.
Introducing Computer-Using Agents
Computer‑Using Agents reimagine what a “desktop” is and who—or what—uses it with AI model providers, such as Copilot Studio or Azure Foundry.
With Windows 365 for Agents, the Cloud PC becomes an always‑available, secure, AI‑ready environment purpose‑built for agentic workloads. An environment where agents can interact with applications through real user interfaces, navigate workflows the way humans do, and operate with full context—while remaining isolated, compliant, and governed.
I have also shared insights for AI‑enabled Cloud PCs, which are tied to a single individual. Together with Windows 365 for Agents that are persistent digital workspaces for agents, both can run continuously, scale instantly, and operate independently or alongside human workers.
Agents can:
- Use standard legacy Win32 aka business applications through the UI—not just through application AI native APIs.
- Execute multi‑step workflows across tools and systems.
- Maintain state and context over time.
- Operate within enterprise security and compliance boundaries.
Windows, once the endpoint for human productivity, becomes the runtime for intelligent digital teammates.
The EUC landscape is changing...
Traditional EUC was designed around scarcity: limited devices, manual configuration, and reactive support. IT teams have spent years optimizing provisioning, patching, image management, and cost control, often just to keep up.
But agents introduce a different set of requirements:
- Cloud PCs that can be created, scaled, and retired dynamically
- Policy‑driven isolation and least‑privilege access by default
- Continuous monitoring and governance for non‑human workers
- Cost controls designed for always‑on, task‑driven compute
- Environments that are secure by design, not as an afterthought
This is where EUC either becomes a bottleneck—or a platform.
Nerdio’s AI‑first vision as the future of end-user computing
At Nerdio, our mission has always been to simplify cloud management and make EUC scalable, secure, and cost‑effective. In the era of AI, that mission becomes even more critical.
Nerdio’s vision is that our platform will support AI‑enabled Cloud PCs and Windows 365 for Agents—bringing the same principles enterprise IT teams rely on today into this new agentic world.
Our vision is clear:
- Centralized management of agent and human Cloud PCs from a single control plane
- Policy‑driven automation for provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management
- Built‑in governance to ensure agents operate within defined security, compliance, and cost boundaries
- Operational clarity for IT teams managing both users and digital workers at cloud scale
This is not about adding AI features on top of existing tools. It’s about re‑architecting EUC to be AI‑first.
From tools to teammates
Perhaps the most important change is philosophical.
For years, EUC has focused on enabling people to use tools.
In the age of agents, EUC enables teams—human and digital—working together.
Agents don’t replace people. They augment them. They take on repetitive, cross‑application, or time‑consuming work so humans can focus on strategy, creativity, and decision‑making.
In this world:
- Agents become first‑class workers.
- Cloud PCs become their workspace.
- IT becomes the orchestrator of intelligent systems, not just devices.
This is the future we are building toward.
What we announced at NerdioCon
At NerdioCon 2026, we shared our next step on this journey: Windows 365 support, designed for managing Windows 365 for Agents securely at scale facilitating Win32 apps to become Agentic AI ready!
It’s an early but meaningful milestone toward a broader vision—one where managing agents is as intuitive, governed, and scalable as managing users is today.
With Windows 365, Cloud PCs evolve from static user desktops into intelligent, policy‑driven environments that can securely host users, agents, or both—side by side. These Cloud PCs are optimized not only for interactive productivity, but also for continuous, autonomous AI workloads that require persistence, isolation, and observability.
With this future capability, organizations can centrally manage AI‑enabled Cloud PCs with:
- Consistent configuration and governance across human and agent workspaces.
- Automated lifecycle management to scale compute up or down based on intent and activity.
- Built‑in cost optimization for always‑on and task‑driven AI scenarios.
- Security and compliance guardrails aligned to enterprise and regulatory requirements.
The result is a flexible Cloud PC platform where people and agents operate securely, predictably, and at scale without adding operational complexity for IT.
We want to hear from you!
We want to learn from you. How is agentic AI reshaping your end-user computing experiences today and tomorrow? We prepared a quick 2 – 5-minute survey that we want to ask you to fill in if you are interested in retrieving access first as well as to prioritize future enhancements.
We believe the shift to agentic computing will redefine how work gets done—and EUC will be at the center of that transformation.
