Organizations everywhere are facing a familiar challenge: figuring out how to modernize legacy virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) without the cost, complexity, and disruption that often comes with it. Today, Nerdio is taking a major step toward solving that challenge by announcing the Nerdio Manager private preview for Nutanix Cloud Platform solution as part of Microsoft’s upcoming Azure Virtual Desktop for hybrid environments capabilities. These new capabilities from Nerdio will provide a simpler, more flexible way for organizations to modernize VDI on their own terms.
Modernization without disruption
For many IT teams, modernizing VDI has historically meant making a difficult choice: stay on-premises or commit to a full cloud migration. Moving entirely to Azure often requires significant effort—refactoring applications, migrating data, and rearchitecting environments—which can be both time-consuming and resource-intensive. In addition, key application and desktop performance criteria, such as latency sensitivity, as well as data sovereignty and other compliance requirements, require organizations to maintain on-premises infrastructure. This has driven many organizations’ efforts to move to Microsoft’s Windows Cloud solutions. Nerdio’s latest innovations together with Nutanix hybrid solution model changes that equation and meet organizations wherever they are on their VDI roadmap.
By bringing Azure Virtual Desktop for hybrid environment capabilities to Nutanix-powered environments within Nerdio Manager, organizations can now take a hybrid approach, modernizing incrementally without abandoning existing investments.
“Legacy VDI platforms were built on dependencies that make change expensive and difficult,” said Scott Manchester, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Nerdio. “This partnership with Nutanix alters the math entirely. We’re focused on removing the friction of modernization and meeting customers every step of the way on their cloud journey.”
In collaboration with Nutanix, Nerdio is introducing Nerdio Manager’s desktop orchestration and Azure Virtual Desktop management capabilities for Nutanix Cloud Platform, including AHV.
“Customers are rethinking virtualization deployments,” said Gregory Lehrer, Vice President Business Development at Nutanix. “Together with Nerdio, we’re making it faster and easier to adopt Microsoft technologies while simplifying management through a single console.”
These new capabilities enable organizations to centrally integrate Nutanix Cloud Platform resources directly within Nerdio Manager.
Users can manage desktop images on Nutanix AHV alongside existing or new Azure Virtual Desktop host pools.
Organizations can also manage hosts, user assignments, application groups, and more.
In short, Nerdio Manager will be bringing the best of Azure Virtual Desktop hybrid cloud management to your fingertips by combining cloud innovation with on-premises control. By automating administrative workflows and streamlining management, Nerdio helps IT teams shift their focus away from infrastructure maintenance and toward innovation and growth.
Optimizing Windows Cloud management
With this announcement, Nerdio is going beyond just extending a platform and is redefining how organizations approach VDI modernization. Instead of forcing a disruptive leap to the cloud, Nerdio and Nutanix are enabling a practical, flexible journey—one that meets organizations where they are and helps them move forward at their own pace.
