A SKILLED NURSING FACILITY AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANY, YAM MANAGEMENT OWNS AND OPERATES 16 FACILITIES IN ILLINOIS.
ABOUT THE CASE
YAM Management’s aging IT technology was ineffective, unreliable, and a constant source of stress for employees. With time, it became clear that YAM Management needed to retire their outdated IT system. In entered Nerdio, a partner ready and able to take charge and create a reliable, secure, and cost-effective IT solution.
PROBLEM 1 – RELIABILITY
Numerous reliability issues were at play with YAM’s prior IT infrastructure. Power outages and surges were common, and their in-house server would frequently crash. These exposed the company to significant liability risk. No one knew what data would be lost when the next one occurred.
Frustrated with constant power issues and server failures, YAM Management chose Nerdio to host their server offsite. The cloud-based IT solution was compatible with their ECS electronic medical record system. And because heading off a problem before it happens is usually much better than waiting for disaster to strike, we created a sonic wall at their central office to mitigate much of the risk and liability they’d been left open to. Now most issues are resolved before they’re even seen.
PROBLEM 2 – INFORMATION ACCESS
With 16 separate locations, each time the server would crash, all the other remote facilities lost their connection too. That meant staff at each site couldn’t access vital patient medical records, greatly jeopardizing patient care. They were left to wait it out each time it happened, which could take up to several days to fix. And with so many patients with complicated medical needs, YAM Management and its employees were flying in the dark.
All the company’s 16 locations were connected to a terminal server environment, and we created a sonic wall at their main facility to enhance security. An offsite server and updated technology meant data and information had backups on backups. With uninterrupted access to medical data, staff could give better
patient care. Staffing costs were reduced as well, because working productively keeps staff from waiting around for IT resolutions.
PROBLEM 3 – COST
The unpredictable costs and fees from dealing with regular outages and repairs left YAM Management frustrated. Their IT department was continually putting out fires, constantly biting their nails with worry, and losing sleep over when the next outage would occur. They desperately needed to upgrade, but upfront investment in new hardware and software was costly.
Nerdio’s cloud-based solution saved on the pricey up-front investment of new hardware and software. And the monthly flat-rate fee is much preferred to unpredictable costs. Now the IT department no longer lives in fear, but instead, can concentrate their time and efforts on doing their jobs. And we’re happy we could help to make it happen.
As a full service IT provider, Nerdio’s cloud-based solutions were the right choice for YAM Management. Experts personally walked the employees through the transition. “Adar was extremely detail oriented during our server transition and great at helping us with all the details,” said Yehouishua Israel, IT Director. “Everything was pre-configured… they were flexible with our needs and extremely helpful and proactive.”
